Genevieve’s Journey to beadwork

At a very young age I learned that everything is a gift from the Great Mystery and therefore is sacred. I fell in love with the natural world and wanted to create from it. I began making medicine in a shop with a Medicine Man by the Big Cypress Reservation. I would spend my time collecting treasures from the Earth and learning traditional ways to bless and make offerings for everything received. Thankfully, I was introduced to ceremonies for Earth, Sky and everything in between.

It was always a dream to learn to bead in a traditional way. A family friend who beads regalia for herself & her family lovingly taught me. We met every Friday sharing tea & stories while stitching beads. Making lizard & turtle bags, Rosettes and beading feather stems. We talked about native history, Sun Dance, beadwork, art and so much more. I spent time learning and practicing every moment I had to spare. I understand what a sacred honor it is to hold these traditions and I igive the beadwork my love, attention and devotion.

I always create in ceremony. A bundle of sage, a rattle and prayer before the center bead. I pray for the vision and permission to create and begin. Each piece is one of a kind as the pattern is created while I’m beading, for me this is the natural way.

Thank you for your interest in my work. I lovingly share these pieces with you.
